Hello again and welcome to the latest entry in our long-running GAMES OF THE WEEK series. If you're looking for the best 5 games which have hit the iPhone, iPad or Android stores this week then you've landed yourself at the exact right place at just the right time.

With this article, we skirt around the droves of subscription services (Apple Arcade, Google Play Pass, GameClub, Hatch, Playond et cetera) which have launched onto mobile platforms, and we also don't factor in things like Steam Link or Google Stadia which allow streaming to handheld devices. That means that our list is a finely curated list of brilliant, fresh titles which you can download and play without subscribing to, or installing, any third-party initiative. Of course, there are some great games on those services, but, let's focus on the stuff that you can grab right now.

This week there are puzzle games, retro-RPGs and much more more. You'll have to read on in order to find out exactly what has made the cut.

Remember, if you're looking to check through some of our previous selections then you can always do that at our Games of The Week Hub, it's a great way to find games to fill out that empty storage space on your phone. Or, if you like your news in bitesize chunks, delivered straight to your palm then maybe follow us on Twitter.

Anyway, without any further delay, click through on the big, blue button below to find out more about the 5 best new games for mobile this week.

Summer Catchers

Juicy and creative, Summer Catchers is an evolution of those simple 2D auto-run levels - playing as an inventive platformer glued together with story-moments, puzzles and a wistful spirit. I remember the game going through Steam Greenlight back when that was still a thing (2016) but just thinking that it had been lost to the aether, but instead, we're here with this wonderful little game finally available not only on PC (as of mid last year) but also mobile.

Wasco

Genre: RPG

Wasco

Some of my favourite games on mobile are RPGs, not necessarily the more modern ones - like when we get a Final Fantasy entry or the recent, phenomenal port of The Last Remnant, Nah, I really like games which feel like mismatched, forgotten SNES RPGs. Games like Void Pyramid, Games like Wasco.

Wasco is a Sci-Fi RPG, specifically a cyberpunk one, which revolves around the titular, waste-collecting robot. Unlike its peers, it's built to come in at about an hour's play, but that hour is a deep, concentrated version fo the classic RPG experience... albeit as a little robot on a planet covered in junk. It's charming, even if some of the menu UI design does tend to lean toward the less-fondly remembered elements of that old genre.

Epic Card Game

Digital board game adaptations seem to be launching every other week now, but today we've got something ever so different in the form of a digital adaptation of the card game Epic. If you've not heard of it then, well, that's fine, it was released as a Magic The Gathering alternative where you didn't need to actively collect (or unlock) cards in order to play.

That means that you come with a fully realised 'season' of units, there're no weak spots in your decks beside the ones you input yourself. That's interesting because it removes the primary revenue stream of most CCGs, and in this case, it means that Epic can't charge for extra cards - instead, it charges for extra deck slots, cosmetic version and different arenas.

It means that it's not just approachable, but also very accessible, and not strapped with lures and bait for microtransactions.

Incredible Mandy

Genre: Action, Adventure, Puzzle

Incredible Mandy

To quote Cameron, when he covered the approaching release, "Dotoyou Games' Incredible Mandy is an emotional adventure game that sees you exploring the vivid, fantastical memories of a brother and sister duo. You'll take on bosses and solve puzzles through eight varied and distinct levels, each offering their own puzzle types and challenges."

Incredible Mandy isn't just an emotional journey though, it's a fantastic experience with cartoonish colour palettes and a story pulled together through anime sequences. A fun little package.

The House of Da Vinci 2

It's been a good few months since The House of Da Vinci 2 released on iOS, well Android users can now rejoice as the popular puzzle game has finally released onto Google Play.

The House of Da Vinci 2 picks up right where the first game ended, but there are more than a few upgrades beyond the formula. For a start, it's now fully voiced, and there are dozens more interactive objects to try to help you understand the mystery which is afoot.
