Hello again and welcome to the latest entry in our long-running GAMES OF THE WEEK series. If you're looking for the best 5 games which have hit the iPhone, iPad or Android stores this week then you've landed yourself at the exact right place at just the right time.

With this article, we skirt around the droves of subscription services (Apple Arcade, Google Play Pass, GameClub, Hatch, Playond et cetera) which have launched onto mobile platforms, and we also don't factor in things like Steam Link or Google Stadia which allow streaming to handheld devices. That means that our list is a finely curated list of brilliant, fresh titles which you can download and play without subscribing to, or installing, any third-party initiative. Of course, there are some great games on those services, but, let's focus on the stuff that you can grab right now.

This week it's been incredibly hard to whittle the releases down to five, there have been at least a dozen great releases which each attempted to steal away our attention. But, here we are with a selection ranging from RTS through a first-person puzzler to energy-filled, aerial fighting.

Remember, if you're looking to check through some of our previous selections then you can always do that at our Games of The Week Hub, it's a great way to find games to fill out that empty storage space on your phone. Or, if you like your news in bitesize chunks, delivered straight to your palm then maybe follow us on Twitter.

Anyway, without any further delay, click through on the big, blue button below to find out more about the 5 best new games for mobile this week.

1
Veritas

Developer: Glitch Games
Available on: iOS + Android
Genre: Puzzle

Veritas

A lot of people forget that Myst was the top-selling game of all time until The Sims came along and made people aware that bossing around incompetents can be extremely fun. Veritas, much like Glitch Games' previous title, Forever Lost, follows in the spirit of Myst as a first-person puzzle game.

If you're looking for a moody puzzler where you're trapped in an underground facility and need to use every single piece of your grey matter in order to escape then Veritas is perfect for you. Unlike most, almost everything is straight forward puzzling, and there's even a photography element in the game, where you can keep notes of things from around the facility and access them whenever needed.

Dadish

He's a dad, he's a radish. It's Dadish. Personally I'm all for portmanteau names and also for bright and colourful platformers. Dadish has a fusion of both and that's good enough for me.

I'm not sure of the competency levels of Radish parents, but Dadish doesn't set a high bar: falling asleep while watching his adventurous kids he spends the entire game bounding through increasingly challenging levels to try and recover his kids.

It's plain and simple fun, easy and approachable, and sometimes that is exactly what is required.

Little Misfortune

It's impossible to deny that Killmonday Games' games have a certain style to them. Little Misfortune is their latest output and it certainly seems to tick all of their normal, boxes: toying the line between dark and light throughout.

"Starring Misfortune Ramirez Hernandez, an imaginative 8-year-old, who seeks the prize of Eternal Happiness, as a gift to her Mommy. Led by her new friend, Mr. Voice, they venture into the woods, where mysteries are unraveled and a little bit of bad luck unfolds."

Company of Heroes

Publisher: Feral Interactive
Available on: iOS + Android
Genre: Strategy

Company of Heroes

14 years ago THQ published one of THQ Canada's greatest creations: Company of Heroes. In the time that has passed since then, THQ has gone completely bankrupt, with the new, modern THQ actually THQ Nordic, and THQ Canada now being Sega subsidiary Relic Entertainment - phew.

Back then, in 2006, there was actually an iOS version released - you can read our review of it from Nov '06 - but lets instead focus on the fantastic looking remake which serial porters Feral Interactive have just released.

It looks great, and reports are coming in saying that the resolution-fix efforts have done wonders to the classic RTS. The real celebration, however, should be that the game functions fantastically with touch controls. Hopefully, as I always say, this will be an important milestone for classic RTS' on mobile platforms.

5
Kick-Flight

Available on: iOS + Android
Genre: Action, Multiplayer

Kick-Flight

Smashing, dashing and bashing is the flavour of the week in Grenge Inc's cartoon brawler Kick-Flight. It takes the camera-angle and fast-paced chaos of the modern anime fights (you know the ones, the Bandai Namco published ones) and delivers it in a furious-paced, IP-less experience.

It's an impressive feat, and it looks great in action - with our own Fighting Game Correspondent Dave Aubrey recently commenting: "Kick Flight is good btw". High praise indeed. Give the trailer below a quick peek and decide whether it's for you.
