Pokemon Go sees the arrival of new Shadow Pokemon that have been captured by Team Go Rocket

A whole host of new Shadow Pokemon have made their way into Pokemon Go, the official Pokemon site has announced today. This means new species will have those creepy red eyes and ominous purple mist floating around them and it's up to you to save them from Team Go Rocket.

You'll have a chance of finding these Pokemon by challenging Team Rocket Grunts that are hanging around discoloured PokeStops. The Pokemon that have received the Shadow treatment are:

  • Vulpix
  • Nintetales
  • Exeggcute
  • Exeggutor
  • Omanyte
  • Omastar
  • Misdreavus
  • Carvanha
  • Sharpedo

On top of that Team Go Rocket Leaders may have Pinsir, Mawile and Beldum too. Finally, you'll also be able to battle Giovanni who's obtained the legendary Pokemon Raikou in Shadow form. Once you've defeated these scoundrels you'll have the option of capturing the Shadow Pokemon where you'll then be able to purify them.

Elsewhere in the world of Pokemon Go Rhyhorn has been chosen as the featured Pokemon for the February Community Day. This will take place on 22nd February and will mean a few different things for fans of the Spikes Pokemon or just Go completionists in general.

During the Community Day Event, players will have a chance to find a shiny Rhyhorn, which is a brown variation of its usual grey self. Beyond that, if you evolve Rhyhorn into its final stage – Rhyperior – then you will also be able to get an exclusive attack for it called Rock Wrecker.

Players will also get 3x Catch Stardust too. In terms of start times for the Community Day, if you live in the Northern Hemisphere it'll start at 11 am and finish at 2 am local time. Meanwhile, if you're in the Southern Hemisphere it will kick off at 3 pm local time and wrap up at 6 pm.

Pokemon Go is available now on the App Store and Google Play. It's a free-to-play game with in-app purchases.
