Happy Lunar New Year 2020 from Pocket Gamer
Welcoming in The Year of the Rat
Wherever you're from and whoever you are, the end of a year and the beginning of a new one is a time for reflection and celebration. For many of our worldwide readers, including our Chinese, East Asian and South-East Asian readership - it's the time of the lunar celebration, and we're seeing off the Year of the Pig, and welcoming in the Year of the Rat.
The video games industry is vast and wide, stretching to the boundaries of what feels like an ever-shrinking world. Yet even though technology and games - including many, many massive games from Asian developers - have brought us closer together over these most recent years, the Chinese Lunar Year has been a core part of the world's history for much, much longer.
I'm not a young man (born a couple of Year of the Tiger's back), but I still remember the school lessons where we learned about the Chinese Zodiac, and this year my eldest son has been doing the same. It's a celebration and period in time which is known about, if not celebrated, world-wide.
2020 brings about a new cycle of the 12-part zodiac, returning to the winner of the race: The Rat. What will the year of the Rat bring for developers? The Rat is said to be clever, quick thinking and successful - but however you see your stars and fates falling, it is set to be another ground-breaking year in the games industry.
For now, though, let's all enjoy the festivities, and look forward to a great year.
