Did you know that Pocket Gamer is part of a massive network of websites, a network stretching well beyond our Steel Media overlords? Well, here's an article where we celebrate our part among the Steel Media Alliance, and that of some of our compatriots around the alliance.

Hello and welcome to this week's Around The Alliance, our series where we round up some of the best posts from the best mobile sites out there - that's right, from the alliance of websites that we're a part of. Think of it as us showcasing some of our work alongside that of our friends, for everybody to see.

Let's face it, there are just so many great games out there that no one site can cover every single bit of news, and that's why it's so great that there are so many sites out there covering them - this is our way of celebrating our friends, and the biggest news that we might have missed.

In this article, we've brought together articles from Pocket Gamer and our sister sites, 148Apps and AppSpy, while also featuring some great reads from Blue Moon Game and Touch Tap Play.

This week that takes the form of a beginner's guide for Eve: Echoes, news of Marvel Super War's upcoming release, an amazing update for Elder Scrolls: Blades and a reflection on Metacritic's top 50 games of the decade list, as well as our most recent entry in our Games of the Week highlight series.

So let's get on with the best of the content from the best of the best.

When it comes to discussing the newest releases, the team here at Pocket Gamer is always completely on the ball - you could even say that our coverage of them is completely out of this world. That's a great pun when (hold on) you take a look at our Games of the Week article from last week which featured absolutely zero games which took place on the blue and green marble that we call home.

That's right, we spoke about Eve: Echoes, Dream Detective, Space Grunts 2 and much much more. There are, of course, dozens of games to choose from when it comes to these things - so why not head on through and find out the very cream of the new release crop for last week?

Touch Tap Play has also been in space, as it turns out. They've been diving into the extensive world of Eve Echoes, CCP & Netease's mobile take on the legendary Eve Online. They've made an essential guide for getting started with the game, and it's brimming with guides on how to horde skill points as well as a handy list of tips about the different types of ships.

There is, as you might imagine, quite a lot to learn about Eve: Echoes if you're planning on becoming the best pilot in the galaxy, you won't go far wrong by checking out Touch Tap Play's extensive starter guide.

Blue Moon Game - Marvel Super War is getting released on December 19th

There are now more than enough games set in the Marvel universe that you could fill a page with just the titles of them. Marvel Super War stands out from the rest by bringing the massive Marvel roster to the MOBA format. This doesn't just bring a massive IP to a powerful genre, no, it brings a household-name roster full of characters who are already known for their fighting and movement styles. Before we even boot up the game we already know that Hulk will Smash and that Iron Man will be ranged; We know that Spiderman will be nimble and fast and that Thor will be a melee combo character.

Are you pumped yet? It's certainly quite an interesting offering. Blue Moon Game have vastly more details on Marvel Super War than we've delivered here, so it's a great place to start reading about your next favourite game.

148Apps - Elder Scrolls: Blades has ditched chest timers and added a PvP arena

We've shared words about Bethesda's most recent mobile outing here on Pocket Gamer. If you've played the game then you'll almost certainly have benefited from our massive, ultimate guide for Elder Scrolls: Blades, that's for sure.

Well, if you've played the game then you'll almost certainly have had an opinion on the chest-unlocking mechanic which was intrinsically tied to the progress. It was, for many, completely out of place - reminiscent of Clash Royale and Rumble Star's chests. Why would a stat-dependent RPG structure progress around timer-based chests? The answer is, as in many cases, profit, but rarely does it feel like such a contradiction to the pace.

Anyway, as it turns out, that's all over now. Over on 148Apps they've reported that - among other changes - the chest timers have been removed. There's a lot more information over there, so click on through and have a look around.

AppSpy - Metacritic's top 50 games of the decade is disappointingly light on mobile games

You might be wondering why there's an old Monument Valley video review above. Mysterious, huh? Well, let me explain. Over on AppSpy they've been looking into Metacritic's top 50 games of the decade and have found some anomalies. The list doesn't have any iOS or Android first titles on there. There're certainly some titles which did make their way onto mobile platforms later as ports, however, games such as The Room and Monument Valley didn't make it in.

As it turns out that's because they didn't receive enough critic reviews - arguably not something down to the quality of the game, but simply the barrier set before inclusion. Do those two (and other) games outrank titles which made it into the list? Definitely. Will they be added to the list? Certainly not.

It's a frustration that mobile-first games don't get a fair shot at entry into the list. And it's a shame that, despite universal acclaim, the reluctance that most mainstream outlets show toward dipping into the storefronts that every one of us carries around in our pockets. Apple stated earlier in the year that there are 1.4 billion of their devices out there active in the world - with approximately 900 million of those being iPhones. Over on VGChartz.com they reported that at the same point in time (Jan 2019) the PS4 - the best selling current-gen console - reached lifetime sales of 92.6 million. It's an impressive number, but only a tenth of the units of just one popular brand of mobile phone.

Anyway, that's enough grumbling about numbers for now. Join us next week for another Around The Alliance.
