Developer Bulbware's gross-out poopcrafting dungeon crawler, Poopdie, finally has a firm release date for iOS and Android. The game features voice work from YouTuber PewDiePie, and it's set in a world where everyone has forgotten how to fart or defecate, leading them to become hyper-aggressive and, in many cases, violent.

In terms of obvious inspirations, it's impossible not to notice similarities between Poopdie and The Binding of Isaac. Visually, Poopdie is clearly a little less grim, with a larger focus on scatological humour and ridiculous scenarios.

You can defend yourself from bad-tempered bums by mixing various foods and crapping out different unit types. As you can tell from the description, it takes itself incredibly seriously. Quite why this wasn't released in time for the Game Awards is a mystery to me.

Ex-Ed Ric previewed the game last year, finding it to be a solid dungeon crawler with a very specific target audience in mind. His only concerns revolved around the free-to-play mechanics, which – at that point – allowed you to effectively buy your way through the game's challenges. While plenty of mobile titles go for a similar approach, Ric was concerned that it could negatively impact progression.

Old News Ed Emily reviewed the team's previous game, Bulb Boy, at launch, praising its strong, Burton-like aesthetic while finding its puzzles to be obscure and archaic. Depending on who you ask, though, that last point could very well be seen as a positive.

Work on Poopdie began all the way back in March of 2017, so it's been a long time coming for fans of PewDiePie and Bulbware. Thankfully, you don't have too long to wait now, as Poopdie is set to launch for iOS and Android on December 12th. And you can find more info over on the dev's official site
