Skybolt Zack isn’t a game for the faint of heart. DEVS MUST DIE’s rhythm platformer will push your reflexes to the limit at every turn, requiring you to rapidly dash and punch your way through chains of enemies on a non-linear path. It’s fast, frantic fun, and it’s coming to Nintendo Switch and PC on October 24th.

To celebrate the upcoming launch, publisher Green Man Gaming has announced an intriguing “crowd scoring” reward demo. Every player who takes part in the demo will contribute their score to a running total. The higher the overall score, the more rewards will be unlocked, including 5% to 15% discounts for the first week of release and a free soundtrack download. The demo will be available exclusively on Steam from October 4th, and the challenge will run until October 20th. You can find full details on the demo over on the game’s Steam community page.

Skybolt Zack actually started life as a student project assembled over the course of several months. The final, polished product is the work of 4 members of the original team, who decided to develop the original idea into a full game.

The arcade action is simple but fun, requiring you to chain together combos by pressing the button with the same colour as your targeted enemy. With the help of your Rocket Punch attack, you’ll quickly and skilfully traverse each level in style while avoiding pitfalls and earning high scores. Music appears to be tied to your combos, which is a neat idea, and I like that you can make your own way through the levels using alternate paths.

Look for Skybolt Zack on PC and the Nintendo Switch eShop on October 24th. And you can download the demo right now from the game’s Steam page.
