Pokémon Masters has landed, but if you've just started the game and realised you can't seem to participate in co-op mode, well, you're not alone.

I'll tell you this: co-op mode is in the game, and you can play it right now, but you will need to follow some steps to actually unlock the mode, and that might not be as easy as you think.

Co-op mode involves you partnering up with other Pokémon Masters players online, either in a random matching or with your friends. The good news is that matchmaking it really good so far, and has quickly given me online partners.

If you want more friends to partner up with online, make sure to check out our friend code post. If you want more information on leveling up, evolving, and much more, make sure to check out our Ultimate Guide to Pokémon Masters.

But for now, read on for even more on how to unlock and win in co-op mode…

How to unlock co-op mode

To unlock co-op mode, you actually need to make your way through ten chapters of the main story, and one chapter of an interlude story featuring Brock.

That means you will need to increase the strength of your Pokémon a hell of a lot before you get to co-op mode, and you should check out our guides from our Ultimate Guide in order to power up quickly and make progress fast.

Once you've gotten to this point, you should have all five league badges, and a bunch of sync-pairs fully powered up and ready to take on any opponents. If you don't, then it's time to earn some gems, get more sync-pairs, and then get leveling them up as much as possible through the training mode. Once that's complete, you'll be ready to play online in co-op mode.
