Original story

If Found… is an upcoming visual novel from indie developer dreamfeel. It’s described as a ‘compelling and intense exploration of family, community, connection, and isolation’, which is why it comes as no surprise that it’s being published by the wonderful Annapurna Interactive.

The game takes place in the West of Ireland in the early 90s, a novel setting for a game if you ask me. You’ll explore the headspace of a young woman called Kasio, just as she starts going about destroying her diary.

In an interesting twist, you uncover her story and secrets by exploring her memories and working to erase them. You’ll see her moving into an abandoned house, attending a punk show, having new experiences and meeting new friends. Over time, the events that led to her current predicament – her conflict with her family included – will become clear, and in the pages of her diary you’ll uncover an explanation for the looming black hole that threatens to consume the Earth.

The trailer comes across as really quite tender and personal, with the visuals and score creating a woozy, dreamlike vibe. I’m a complete sucker for affecting coming-of-age tales when they’re done well, and the teaser for this one has got me hooked.

Annapurna Interactive (Florence, What Remains of Edith Finch) is easily one of the most reliable publishers in the business, and dreamfeel seems like a wonderful up-and-coming developer. In the meantime, you can check out more of the team’s games right here. I especially like the sound of Curtain; a first-person narrative-driven experience about two queer women in a Glasgow-based punk band. Look for If Found… on the App Store in 2020.
