Pokemon Masters, the long-awaited 3v3 style Pokemon game, is finally available;e. As a long-time Pokemon fan, I've been looking forward to this one, so I'm very excited now it's finally here. It's available on your platform of choice over on the App Store and Google Play.

Pokemon Masters was only announced back in May so we've not had to wait all that long to play it in reality but in my head, it's been several years. The game is set on a new island called Pasio, home of the Pokemon Masters League where you can only compete in 3v3 battles.

In terms of the battles, it's the closest to a main series Pokemon game we've had so far on mobile. You'll have your choice of moves to use as well a picking which of your opponents 3 Pokemon you'll target. The difference is that the battles aren't quite the traditional style. Instead of PP for moves, you'll have a 'move bar' at the bottom of the screen that slowly fills up and decreases a set amount depending on the move you use, though speed remains a factor in who moves first.

Unlike the main series though you won't gallivant about the world catching a team of Pokemon. Each trainer has only one Pokemon, which is called a sync pairing. It reminds me a lot more of the setup they have in Digimon unless you count that greedy Willis lad who had two Digimon even though Terriermon is more than enough.

That means that to get other Pokemon you'll also effectively collect other trainers too. These will be characters from the series alongside their signature Pokemon or at least one they use. For instance, you kick off the game with Brock and Misty who are partnered with Onix and Starmie respectively.

They will be found using the Sync Pair Scout which is effectively a gacha system where you'll get different levels of sync pairs. However, there will be some you can gain for free simply by playing through the game's story.

Pokemon Masters is available now on the App Store and Google Play. It's a free-to-play game with in-app purchases. Oh, there's also a Porygon phone in the game that's very cute and I want one.
