It's fair to say that the announcement of Diablo Immortal wasn't particularly well received. But now, thanks to Rivsoft players will be able to enjoy the traditional Diablo experience on mobile. Well, sort of.

The recently released port of Diablo runs in your browser, which means that it's playable on either your PC or mobile phone. But, the freeware version does lack a few key features. You'll only be able to play as the warrior class and will only have limited access to dungeons. It also prevents you from talking to many of the characters. Think of it as a free demo.

However, if you have the original, which is available on GOG, you can gain access to the full game by uploading the DIABDAT.MPQ file. Mobile players will still want to have a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse to hand though. Several players have reported being unable to use items in the quick panel using touch controls, although moving around and navigating menus via touch works very well.

Also, be aware that by playing the game in your browser you'll most likely delete any save files when you clear your cache. Players running the game in Safari have said their game would reset regardless, while Chrome users have reported their save files haven't, so that's worth bearing in mind too.

It's far from perfect then, but there's undoubtedly a lovely, nostalgic novelty to be found in the ability to play Diablo on your smartphone. If you're not a fan of emulation or trips down memory lane and would much rather look to the future, then Diablo Immortal might be of interest. There's been no official release date yet. However, if you're excited to play Bilizzard's mobile spin on their storied franchise then you can pre-register on the official site.
