Gorgeous, thought-provoking puzzler Solo: Islands of the Heart arrives on Switch

The newly released Solo: Islands of the Heart is a game all about love. More specifically, it’s about relationships and what exactly you look for in a partner. Bet you didn’t guess most of that from looking at the cute, low-poly art style, eh? After a year-long wait, it’s finally available for download over on the ol’ Nintendo eShop.

Despite the heavy subject matter, Solo does an excellent job of easing you into its mix of light puzzling and introspective questioning. You’ll explore lush islands on foot or by boat, meet various animal companions, and answer questions pertaining to your romantic life.

If you’re anything like me, it can occasionally feel a little odd essentially being softly interrogated by a game, especially about things as personal as your sex life. Though, as I said, it does a decent job of making you want to be honest and thoughtful about things.

It’s also commendable that the game avoids passing heavy judgement on any of your answers, so you should feel free to share what you like without worrying about getting a condescending telling-off afterwards.

It’s just oh so relaxing and charming, with a breezy vibe that makes it perfect for woozy, late-night play sessions. I’ve had it for a while now and I’ve enjoyed my time with it considerably. Even when its puzzles started to drag, I was drawn back again and again to see it through to the end.

If it sounds like your sorta thing, you’ll find Solo: Islands of the Heart available for download now over on the Nintendo eShop. It’s currently priced at $19.99 (or $15.99 if you get in early), and I can easily recommend it to anyone looking for something a little different to play on their Switch.
