The wonderful GameClub has now released an updated version of Vlambeer’s (Nuclear Throne, Ridiculous Fishing) 2010 classic, Super Crate Box, into its early access programme.

If you haven’t heard of GameClub yet, what it basically does is resurrect older iOS games whose developers can no longer release updates or offer compatibility support for more recent devices. It’s a free service, and all you need to do to get involved is sign up and download the Test Flight app. GameClub tends to release one new game a week into its early access programme, though some weeks it’s launched two at once.

Super Crate Box is an intense arena-based shooter where you break into crates and are randomly assigned a new weapon every time you do so. The challenge comes from having to constantly adapt to your updating arsenal. You can never get too comfy; it’s great.

Some of the other games GameClub has revived so far include The Sleeping Prince, an inventive platformer that sees you flinging the titular prince’s sleeping ragdoll body to solve puzzles and traverse the environment; Hook Worlds, a tricky action RPG and the third game in the popular “hook” trilogy; and Glorkian Warrior, a bullet hell arcade shooter full of rock-hard bosses and imposing swarms of enemies. And these are only a few of the titles you can play again thanks to GameClub.

If you’d like to get involved, you can head on over to the official GameClub site and sign up for its early access programme. Most of the games released so far have been well worth a play, and the service itself is totally free.

You can also become part of the GameClub community over on its official Discord server. It’s a great service, and, to my knowledge, GameClub is one of the few teams working to preserve mobile games, which is absolutely a cause worth supporting.
