Game of Thrones: Beyond the Wall could be the ultimate strategy RPG for mobile

HBO's unfathomably huge fantasy series Game of Thrones has seen plenty of mobile game adaptations over the years, and the upcoming Game of Thrones: Beyond the Wall looks to be one of the best yet. This one's a strategy RPG of sorts that sees you collecting and upgrading some of the show's most beloved characters, including Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen.

It's headed our way from publishers GAEA Mobile, who you might know know from Heroes of Camelot and Ace of Arenas, and Behaviour Interactive. Behaviour Interactive in particular has a very eclectic mix of games under its belt, including Assassin's Creed Rebellion and Dead by Daylight – both titles that successfully dabble in pre-existing franchises – so it'll be interesting to see what it can do with the Game of Thrones license.

The story is set several decades before the show, just after the disappearance of Lord Commander Brynden Rivers (the Three-Eyed Raven). By communing with some sort of magical tree, you'll be able to travel back in time to collect different variants of the show's many iconic characters.

Early on in Beyond the Wall, you'll be tasked with commanding one of the Night Watch's castles along the wall. It's certainly no easy task, and soon you'll be fighting back both wildlings and undead hordes that swarm down from the north. Over time, you can bolster your defences and recruit troops from all over Westeros, all while duking it out with enemies in tricky tactics-style combat.

For a deeper dive into what the game is all about, you should check out the in-depth interview over on PocketGamer.biz with Behaviour Interactive creative director Justin Jones.

Game of Thrones: Beyond the Wall is set to launch for iOS and Android later in the year. If you're looking to nab yourself some bonus characters and items, you should head on over to the game's official site to pre-register now.

It actually looks quite promising, and, as I already mentioned, Behaviour Interactive has a good track record with this sort of thing. From Reigns: Game of Thrones and Game of Thrones: Conquest to Telltale's story-driven series, we've certainly no shortage of Game of Thrones mobile adaptations. So, while we wait for Beyond the Wall, what's been your favourite so far?
