It's been another week of great games and great game news. We even got (another) extra day off work over here in the UK this week which gave us some time to catch up on those games we've been missing out on playing. I've been spending my extra time charting out the world in Neo ATLAS 1469 and card-battling bitter rivals in Warhammer Age of Sigmar Champions. I hope you've been having just as much fun.

Among some news regarding Slay the Spire and My Child Lebensborn we've also had a new game for the Labo VR and a whole bunch of releases. Find out more by clicking through our handy-dandy link.

Slay the Spire Switch launch date slides into uncertainty

Mega Crit Games took to their Slay the Spire reddit, r/slaythespire, to detail their progress on console updates for the title. The PS4 version is heading along as planned and now has a May 21st release date, meanwhile the Nintendo Switch version has run into some complications. While there aren't details on the reasoning behind the delay, it does mean that they're unable to guarantee a release date which matches the PS4.

This issue could have been a simple, small thing which was clocked by Nintendo during final certification, or something picked up on during the final QA. Regardless, recertification can take an indefinite amount of time (normally weeks), which could definitely see its release pushed back into June if that's the reason.

Slay the Spire, for the unaware is one of the most successful card-game & roguelike fusions on the market. It's multi-award winning for a reason, it's writing and mechanics are fantastic, and we're really looking forward to adding it to our Switch libraries in the months to come.

New Nintendo Switch Labo VR, VR Plaza game released

A big thanks to user Polmo97 over on r/NintendoSwitch for this one. Nintendo have released a new minigame for the Labo VR via the Nintendo Switch news feed.

If you're like me and hardly use the news feed on the Switch then you'll almost certainly have (also) not subscribed to many of the product feeds. This, as it turns out, is a mistake, as Nintendo have made use of the feed to deliver new games and media to products. In the case of the Labo VR they've added a fun, little whack a mole game which you can save to the system after going through the VR Garage function.

To download it you'll need to go to your Switch news feed settings, turn them on (or access) the Labo VR stream. Once there you'll see an option to download the new game. Once you press this you'll need to boot up the Labo VR Garage (and have finished the tutorial), and it'll be available for you to see. As with any of the minigames you can tinker with it as you wish, but do remember to save it or it will lost and you'll have to go through the process again.
As many of you know I'm really waiting for the Labo VR library to kick off, this is a great little start. I'm always quite happy that they managed to do this with just the single JoyCon, as initially I was under the impression that a whack-a-mole game wouldn't be possible without the Elephant ToyCon (for depth).

Go on, give it a go. If you like it, or have made your own games and want to share them, then please let us know.

Warhammer 40K: Deathwatch Switch version cancelled

Funbox Media, who were originally handling the Warhammer 40K: Deathwatch Switch release have confirmed that they will not be completing the release. The publisher, one of the few non-niche or genre-specific, physical publishers left, confirmed to a Twitter user that the decision was out of their hands. It came after enquiries following an email.

Deathwatch's Switch release was first let slip last year when (as with many things these days) online retailers started listing it. Rodeo Games' turn-based strategy originally did the rounds as a mobile release back in 2015 — our Harry even reviewed it — before being modernised and released on other platforms.

My Child Lebensborn to release on Nintendo Switch later this year

My Child Lebensborn is an award-winning narrative game all about raising a child which was part of the WWII Lebensborn programme. It's as much a 'tamagotchi' style game as it is a political and social narrative, with you taken an active role in trying to protect and correctly raise a child who is haunted by the stigma of their parentage.

I've played a lot of My Child Lebensborn over the last year, returning to it every couple of months. As a parent it's emotionally hard to deal with a child who is being bullied, My Child Lebensborn covers this subject matter carefully and well, never losing the chance for you to pass on a little hope to the child.

Your actions and choices have direct implications on how the child grows, maybe you'll spend your meagre wages on extravagant food or new clothes, maybe you'll harden the child to the insults, maybe you'll help them find their mother and come to terms with the fact that they are greater than their genetic legacy.

It's great that My Child Lebensborn will be releasing on more platfoms, and the touchscreen interface of the Switch should mean that the controls remain similar to the mobile version which released last year.

Duck Game - 02/05/2019

Duck Game is a local multiplayer institution for me. If I've got a house full of people then Duck Game simply has to be there. It's an extremely fast-paced little, single-screen multiplayer game where players each start as unarmed ducks. Very quickly everybody rushes to weapons or items before trying to kill or defeat each other.

It's a formula that's very well practised these days, but Duck Game's greatness comes through the massive variety and rotation of levels and weapons. You might go eight rounds without seeing the half-a-dozen weapons you normally call friend, and that means that you need to constantly think on your feet in order to win. This keeps the formula fresh, and it means that unlike most games of this type it just doesn't get old.

Swords of Ditto: Mormo's Curse - 02/05/2019

Beautiful Saturday morning cartoon-style visuals are definitely in, and The Swords of Ditto: Mormo's Curse does a great job of strapping them onto the ever popular roguelite genre. Being a roguelite there's definitely a difficulty curve in place, one which is referenced throughout, with plenty of mechanics specifically based around it, albeit with it dressed up as recursive time.

Former editor Ric Cowley has just finished up his review of the game on the site, why not give it a read?

Puyo Puyo Champions - 07/05/2019

The Puyo Puyo scene continues to swell here in the UK. Many of the events which I've gone to over the last couple of years have had a dedicated area for Puyo Puyo or Puyo Puyo Tetris competitions. There's a reason for that: Puyo Puyo has a sleek, simple to understand formula which translates well to the competitive scene.

If you've still not dabbled with Puyo Puyo but have fond memories of Tetris, Columns or Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine then this an almost definite purchase for you.
