The 5 best Switch games of April 2019
Dragons, robots and space
I'm sure you've probably noticed that we're always beavering away. Always reviewing the latest releases in our mission to keep you up to speed with the latest games and give you an idea of what to buy.
Well, how better to reflect on than to look back at some of the reviews we've shared with you over the last month? Of the dozens of releases on the Nintendo Switch we've chose five of them which we think stand out from the rest.
Among them we've had a dragon steal our heart, the devil take our soul and well, we've been smashing the circuits out of giant robots to save the planet. Just another month for the Pocket Gamer team.

Out There
Rogue-likes are not everybody cup of tea, but if you don't mind dipping into the genre then the recently released Out There, which includes the The Alliance update, has you jetting around outer space juggling resource management and completing events. Your mission is simple: To return to Earth.
Our reviewer, Matt Thrower, thought highly of the game, reflecting that "Whether you live or die is almost entirely down to the whims of fate, but that's kind of fitting for the strong stories Out There presents" while giving it a Bronze rating.

Dragon's Dogma
Capcom's Dragon's Dogma, to paraphrase our reviewer Ric Cowley, is a bit of a silly mess. It's got a companion system based around summoning 'Pawns' which are chatty, customised characters with their own RPG leveling and quest memories. It also has a clinging and clamboruring mechanic where characters can climb up the larger enemies, or grab and fling the smaller ones.
In wrapping up Ric concluded that 'Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen is showing its age, but it still has a certain charm that simply can't be denied' and issued a Silver Rating.

Mechstermination Force
A series of consecutive big boss fights, Mechstermination Force has players facing off against oversized robots in an effort to save the planet. That might not sound like something new to you, after all it's a well-trodden trope, but reviewer Matt Forde posited that the variety of the bosses makes it stand out from the contenders.
As his closing summary Matt stated that 'Mechstermination Force feels like Cuphead meets Shadow of the Colossus,' which isn't a bad way to be, 'and it's absolutely worth your time' awarding a Silver Rating

Cuphead
Matt Forde was back again for another review, this time for a title he alluded to in reviewing Mechstermination Force: Cuphead.
For those unfamiliar with the title, it's a nails-hard run and gun platformer stuffed with lengthy boss battles, each one filled with multiple stages and forms. Players are required to either juggle luck or throw themselves at the bosses until they've learned their techniques and rhythm — a rewarding system if you can stick it out.
In concluding the review, Matt wrote 'Cuphead's friendly demeanour, thrill ride of jazz jollies, and stellar gameplay feels right at home on the Switch' and gave the game a Gold Rating.

Katana Zero
Katana Zero is one that we didn't quite get time to review on the site, however I did do a little preview piece on it back near the start of the month.
It's a brutally fast-paced action platformer where you juggle command of time and quick-thinking in order to clear room after room. There's also an adapting story which runs through the game, cleverly justifying the main character's peculiar abilities and why you keep getting these jobs to kill people.
It also oozes style, with a setting that I still can't place as scummy 80s style neon streets filled with 40's dressed enforcers and modern SWAT teams fill the sights visible below the cyberpunk skyline. Phew.
It's well worth picking up and giving a go if you're into fast-paced action games.
