Thursday is the day when most of the new releases land on the App Store. And while today might feel like a Wednesday to some people who are still painfully confused after the weekend, it's actually Thursday. Which means it's time to round up what we think are the top 5 best new games for iOS and Android this week.

This week we've got board game zombies, a new way to play a bonafide mobile classic, a soccer game filled with anthropomorphic creatures, and a weird indie about harvesting organs from trees. Basically we've got a little something for everyone, so long as you like playing the very best games on your smartphone.

You don't just have to take our word for how great these games are either - we've included download links so you're only a couple of clicks away from getting any of them installed on your phone or tablet. That's the sort of handy service we like to provide here at Pocket Gamer.

Of course you might not think our list is correct, and that's fine. If you've got your own suggestions as to what are the best games to come out this week, we'd love to hear them, Drop them in the comments section at the bottom of the article and we can have a reet good chat. Or if you prefer reacting to things with small pictures, we've now added the ability to do that to all of our posts, which is exciting?

Make sure you bookmark our Games of the week hub so you're not missing out on any of these excellent articles too. You can do that with a click right here. I think that covers everything, so let's get on with our list of the best new games for mobile from this week.

Bombastic Brothers

This one came out at the end of last week, just missing the deadline for our previous round up. Doesn't matter though, because Bombastic Brothers is still a big, weighty, primary coloured shooter that we're a little bit in love with.

It's a slick action platformer with loads of characters to unlock and even more alien invaders to blast into smithereens. There's always something to do, always a new mission waiting around the corner, and more importantly almost everything the game asks you to do is a whole heap of fun.

Rumble Stars Soccer

What would happen if you mixed Clash Royale, a kick-about in the park, and a zoo escape? Well it'd probably look a little something like Rumble Stars Soccer. Which is to say it'd look like a surprisingly entertaining and weird take on the sports genre.

There's flicking here, and you need to build up a cast of ballers who compliment each other, since they're going to be passing and shooting of their own accord once they're on the pitch. Throw in angry crocodiles that barge into anyone who moves, cannons that blast players to pieces, and short play times, and you're left with a really intriguing mobile multiplayer game.

Zombicide: Tactics and Shotguns

This one's a turn-based strategy game that's based on a hit board game. It doesn't stick too closely to its physical inspiration, spreading its wings and offering up things that only a digital game would be able to. And it's all the better for it, quite frankly.

You're leading a group of survivors through ever-toughening missions, trying to stay alive, get food, and discover new weapons to use against the zombie horde. It's fast, it's fun, and you're going to have to think tactically if you want to succeed.

Angry Birds: Isle of Pigs AR

It's been awhile since we've seen a decent Angry Birds game, but this one has the potential to take the series in really interesting directions. Find a flat space, hold up your phone, and the game builds a level for you to destroy. But you can walk around it and find the right angle to take it down quickly.

It's a great idea, and Angry Birds feels like the perfect fit for the technology. Sure you're going to need a bit of space to play it, but this is the kind of thing we'd love to see more of with the AR capabilities of modern phones. This is a game that's made better by the inclusion of AR, and the more of them the merrier as far as we're concerned.

Forget me Not: My Organic Garden

This is certainly a strange game, but that doesn't mean it doesn't deserve your attention. It's all about harvesting organs - not from bodies but from strange plants. Obviously there's more going on than that, but we'd rather leave it up to you to discover all of the ins and outs.

And there are a lot of them - Forget me Not is sometimes a confusing experience, but that's part of its offbeat charm. This is a game that doesn't play by any of the rules you'd expect it to, and it's going to stick with you long after you're finished with it.
