How is it Thursday again? I guess because that's how our way of measuring time works. Regardless of how we got here, Thursday is when we like to take a look at the very best new games for mobile that have come out over the last few days. Because there are so many titles hitting the App Store and the Google Play Store all the time, it's sometimes easy to miss out on a gem - we're here to try and make sure that doesn't happen.

Now, it hasn't been the greatest week for new games, if we're honest, but we've put the work in and found five games that we think you should definitely play - even if a hundred other games had come out, these ones would still be vying for a place on the list, that's how good they are.

This week we've got stoned koalas, pigeons that can fly planes, abstract leaping, and a violent combination that wouldn't have made sense about seven years ago but is perfectly commonplace nowadays. Basically what I'm trying to say is that there's a lot going on, and it's a good job you've decided to come and read this excellent article to make sure that you're up to speed with everything.

If you've spotted any new games you think we should be covering, or if you're a developer who wants to throw your own hat into the ring, then please make sure you do in the comments section at the bottom of the article. You could even thank us for finding you a game you love, if that's the sort of thing you're into.

Oh, and we've put links to all the games in the article, so you're only a click away from being able to grab them from whichever store tickles your fancy.

Click here and you can bookmark our games of the week hub, which means you'll be one of the first to know every week when these articles go live - that way you can brag to all of your friends about how much smarter than them you are. Or not, up to you. Anyway, let's get on with the games.

A wonderfully abstract platformer that takes place on a series of collapsed and collapsing circles. It's all about collecting gold coins, but it's much easier said than done.

Bite-sized level keep things fresh, although they're also one of the game's few problems - it's sort of hard to build up a rhythm here. Still, this is a bright and entertaining mobile experience that's almost certainly going to thrill you.

Pigeon Wings Strike

I don't understand why a pigeon would need to fly a plane, but sometimes it's best not to dig too deep into things. Why would a plumber save a princess? Anyway, Pigeon Wings Strike is an endless racer that sees you weaving through angled mazes, over-taking slower birds, and trying to shoot drones out of the sky.

Throw in some boss fights and some proper giddy twitch-based fun, and you're left with the sort of special that only mobile can deliver.

A koala wakes up to find the love of his life gone, his flat trashed, and his life falling apart. It's up to you to solve the clues, talk to the right people, and choose how to act in this noir-ish game set in an anthropomorphic Australia.

It's funny and dark, heartwarming and bleak, weird and accessible, and a bunch of other things to boot. There's no painful logic weightlifting here either - just a story that you're in control of that you're going to want to see out to the very end.

Ninja Dude vs Zombies 2

Yeah, I know, it sounds like the sort of game you're going to pass on, but you should definitely give this one a chance. You're tapping on the screen to throw shuriken down at waves of flesh-munching critters, but there are a few twists here. For one you can only hit the zombies when they're past a certain part of the screen, which makes sure every level is frantic.

Throw in brain munchers who swap lanes, need more than one hit to kill, or explode when they die, and you're onto something pretty darn interesting. There are boss fights, and plenty to unlock as well. Swallow your pride and give this one a go, I think you're going to be pleasantly surprised.

Rusty Pup

Sometimes a game comes along that makes you rethink what's possible on your phone. Have a look at the Rusty Pup trailer and tells us you're not thinking that right now. The game is a wonderful puzzling platformer built with the confidence that its pedigree deserves - it's from the original designer of Conker's Bad Fur Day after all.

It's not just about leaping around, it's about using your brain to solve intricate and smart challenges. And leaping around as well. It might seem a little steep, price-wise, but it'd cost you more to pick the game up on Steam, so it's not too shabby at all.
