Friday has rolled around, and we're all getting ready for the weekend. But before we slope off to whatever inebriations help us get through those two days, it's time to have a look back at what's happened in mobile gaming in the first week of April. It might not have been as jam-packed as last week, but a whole bunch of stuff has happened and we'd hate to think that you missed out on any of it.

So what has been happening, you ask? Well we've seen the release of one of the best puzzler games we've played in a while, and greeted the first genuine piece of iOS nostalgia too. And we're still banging on about Apple Arcade to anyone who'll listen as well, since we're pretty sure it's going to be a massive change for the mobile gaming audience.

Because it's the first week of a new month, we've had a long hard look at all of the games that you're going to be playing April as well. After all, it's our job to make sure you're up to date with the important stuff - and awesome games that can distract you from the rigours of modern life strike us to be pretty darn important.

Elsewhere this week we've been playing The Elder Scrolls: Blades. Or at least some of us have, since the early access is rolling out pretty darn slow. I've not played it, and this infuriates me, but I'm trying not to let that rage bubble through into this article - something I have singularly failed to do.

Obviously we'd love to hear your thoughts on the past week as well - we're doing this for you after all - so if you've got an opinion to share, do be sure and stick it in the comments section at the bottom of the article.

The best new games

This week we've seen not one, not two, but three really good games landing on the App Store. For starters there's the brilliant Photographs from Luca Redwood, a game about the choices we make and how they can have unforeseen consequences. Then there's Rolando: Royal Edition, a polished and preened new version of a bonafide App Store classic. And we got Cultist Simulator Mobile too, if you're into that sort of thing, which we are.

You can click here to check out what we thought were the 5 best new games to come out for mobile this week, and we reckon you definitely should. And keep checking back every Thursday when we'll be writing up another list of the best new games.

More Apple Arcade

Apple Arcade is the gift that keeps on giving in terms of content. We've not heard anything new about the service this week, but we have been getting up previews of the games you can expect to play when the service launches towards the end of the year. If that's not enough, Apple's move into the subscription era was the focus of this week's Editor's Corner column as well - I might be biased, but I definitely think it's worth a read.

We always like to make sure that you're somewhere close to on top of all the new games that are coming out. That's why this week, with it being the first of the month, we've written up a couple of pieces to ensure you know the right games to be getting excited about in April. We've covered mobile, we've covered Switch, and we're more than ready for April to deliver its bounty to us.

The world of video

Did you know we had an amazing video arm? I'm going to assume that you do (if not though, click here to subscribe to our YouTube channel), and just get on with telling you about the awesome videos we've made this week. Alongside a couple of reviews, we've also got some footage of the first quest in The Elder Scrolls: Blades. If you're not on the early access yet (grumble grumble) then it's well worth watching to see what you can expect.

I'm not joking when I say that our guide editor / all round legend Dave Aubrey has played more Blades than most people. It's got to the point now that we have to talk to him in faux olde English or he doesn't respond. On the plus side though, he's written all of these amazing guides to the biggest mobile game of the year, so it's not the end of the world.
