You may already be tearing into April with relish - and why not, with the promise of improving weather and lighter evenings? - but spare a thought for March before you rush off.

It was a pretty quiet month for Switch games, but a decent one nonetheless. We didn't see anything massive released, but there are a couple of memorable little nuggets buried in there.

We had one of the best shooters we've played in ages, a ridiculously complex (and thoroughly marvellous) puzzler, and a thoroughly entertaining multiplayer FPS. Which is a pretty decent month by any standards.

Were you playing anything different on your Switch in March? Let us know in the comments below.

Baba is You

This is that crazy-complex puzzler we mentioned in the intro. You wouldn't think to look at Baba is You, though. It's got the kind of retro aesthetic that screams retro simplicity. Yet this is a game that encourages you to break all the rules and uncover fresh solutions to its problems. Brilliant.

2
Assault Android Cactus

Developer: Witch Beam
Available on: PS Vita
Genre: Shooter

Assault Android Cactus

This game's been around on various platforms for a while now, but we're damned glad it landed on Switch in March. Our dearly departed ex-editor Ric called it "One of the finest shmups ever made," and we're not inclined to disagree just because he isn't here anymore. This is twin-stick action of the highest order.

3
She Remembered Caterpillars

Publisher: Daniel Goffin
Available on: iOS + Android + Steam + Switch
Genre: Puzzle

She Remembered Caterpillars

We don't know what was going on in March, but She Remembered Caterpillars was yet another fabulously weird puzzler. Maybe it was the clocks going forward. No time to ponder too much, because She Remembered Caterpillars requires every ounce of your attention to play properly. It's as tough as it is cute.

4
RICO

Publisher: Ground Shatter
Available on: Switch

RICO

The Switch isn't exactly bursting with quality first person shooters, so RICO is a most welcome addition to the eShop. It's a simple, straight-up room clearer, but we'd hesitate to call it dumb. Not when there's so much gleeful split-screen coop potential.

5
Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon: Eve

Publisher: Square Enix
Available on: Switch
Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon: Every Buddy!

OK, so this won't go down as a classic, and it sure as heck won't be making our end of year lists. But Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon: Every Buddy! is a highly entertaining port of a highly entertaining Wii dungeon crawler, complete with a rich new 'buddy' system. It's not the casual breeze that it looks like, either.

Jon is a consummate expert in adventure, action, and sports games. Which is just as well, as in real life he's timid, lazy, and unfit. It's amazing how these things even themselves out.
