We haven't heard a thing out of Nintendo about Metroid Prime 4 in a long time, and now we know why - they're not happy about its development. So it's all being thrown out, and the company is starting over.

In the video embedded below, Shinya Takahashi, Senior Managing Executive Officer of Nintendo, explains that the game wasn't living up to the standards Nintendo expected of a Prime sequel, and so the whole development is basically starting over. That means the game will be delayed way beyond 2019- in fact, we have no idea when it'll be released at this point.

There is a silver lining, however. Retro Studios is now being brought on board to help develop the fourth entry in the series, having kicked it all off with Metroid Prime back on the GameCube. With the original developer back in the saddle, Nintendo is hopeful that the game will turn out worthy of its predecessors.

This is obviously a huge blow - Metroid Prime 4 is one of the most anticipated games on Switch, and having a setback like this is going to hurt many fans. But ultimately, if it leads to a better game being made, then it's all for the right reasons.

Fingers crossed Metroid Prime 4 doesn't end up canned in the long-run, and that it does eventually land on Switch at some point. We'll keep you posted as we learn more.
