Angry Birds Dream Blast is a new bubble-popping puzzler featuring those famous avians

It's been a while since we've been able to tell you that there's a new Angry Birds game out worldwide, but thankfully that run of bad luck is now over. We say that because Angry Birds Dream Blast is now available for iOS and Android.

The game is a bit of a departure from the usual Angry Birds template and, instead of slinging birds around to try and topple pigs from their lofty but precarious perches, here you're tapping and matching bubbles with the help of some younger versions of your favourite AB characters.

Obviously there are still pigs in your way - wouldn't be an Angry Birds game without them - but here they're obstacles like locks that you need to clear away by matching correctly coloured bubbles next to them.

The game is still very much in that casual, free to play space that Rovio is looking to break into, and it's got the polish and shine that that sort of game needs to succeed. There are some interesting twists here too - for one thing there's no grid, and the bubbles you're popping tumble down thanks to a physics engine that's simulating gravity.

You've got special moves to use as well, that pop up when you make certain matches. These are represented by cute, kiddy versions of birds from the main games, and they can really change the flow of a level if you use them just right.

As you might be able to imagine, everything about the game is put together with the sort of skill that we've come to expect from Rovio. This is a super polished, well thought out puzzler, albeit one where there's not going to be a whole load of head-scratching as you make your selections.

Obviously this one isn't going to be everyone's taste, but then what is. If you fancy giving Angry Birds Dream Blast a go you can click here to grab it for iOS, or click here if you'd rather play on Android.
