YIIK: A Post-Modern RPG is an oddball JRPG headed to Switch next month

YIIK: A Post-Modern RPG finally has a release date set for this coming January. The bizarre JRPG from publisher Ysbryd Games and developer Ackk Studios has been long in the making, but the finish line is near.

YIIK (pronounced Y2K) follows the story of Alex, a recent college graduate who sees a woman vanish from an elevator without explanation. Alex and his friends then embark on a surreal adventure to uncover the mystery of the young woman’s fate, navigating bizarre dungeons full of puzzles, booby traps, and some truly strange enemies.

We played the game at PAX East a few years ago and enjoyed the game’s clever mix of turn-based RPG combat and weird mini-games a la Warioware. There are some familiar RPG trappings in there, but players are also free to wield vinyl records, musical instruments, and other less typical objects in combat. YIIK is shaping up to become a fresh experience for players looking for a new spin on classic turn-based RPGs.

YIIK: A Post-Modern RPG will be available on the Nintendo Switch eShop on January 17, 2019 for £17.99.
