If you were hoping to see Fallout 76 eventually come to Nintendo Switch, you’re about to be quite disappointed. Bethesda announced at PAX Aus this weekend that the upcoming multiplayer entry in the Fallout series is just not doable on the Switch.

While Bethesda has shown a clear dedication to the Switch, bringing quite a few of its properties to the device, including Wolfenstein: The New Colossus; Doom; and Skyrim, Fallout 76 simply won’t work on Nintendo’s flagship console. Bethesda’s Pete Hines explained during a panel:

"The Switch is something I can say with certainty that... it's a part of every conversation with every dev we have now about what we're doing going forward, because we consider it to be a viable platform. If the game will work on it, we want it to be on every platform possible. Fallout 76 is not because it just wasn't doable."

Hines gave no further details on just why the game won’t work, but clarified that everyone at Bethesda seriously considers the Switch as a potential platform. The company wants to see more games on Switch because it’s also a wise move commercially. Hines notes:

"You go where the money is because that's how you stay in business. What we have seen compels us to say, '[Switch] is a viable platform for the kind of things we do going forward.'"

While Fallout 76 is giving Nintendo Switch a miss, expect to see Doom Eternal and The Elder Scrolls Legends appear on the system quite soon.
