New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is the latest Switch port of a Wii U game

The Switch is getting yet another Wii U port, and this time its title is a bit of a mouth full. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is bringing side-scrolling goodness to the Switch early next year.

The game will include all the levels that came in the original game, as well as its spin-off New Super Luigi U, staring our favourite undead brother. Not only that, but New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe introduces a few new things, including two playable characters. Nabbit and Toadette enter the fray each with their own unique mechanics.

Nabbit is an easy mode character since he does not take any damage from enemies at all, and Toadette can pick up a crown power-up that transformers her into Princess Peachette, who can double jump, fall slower, and jump back up onto the surface after falling down a pit.

(Wait? Does that mean mushroom people are just young and they grow up into regular looking humans, like Peach? Are they, like, toddlers? That would explain why Toad basically wears a nappy…)

Anyway like in the original, there will also be an up to four-person co-op mode which turns the screen into a big exciting incomprehensible mess.

I'm happy to see more and more Wii U games coming to Switch. Although it wasn't a great console, there were some exceptional games on Wii U, and it's nice to see these games get a second chance on a much better console.

You can jump around the mushroom kingdom in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe when it's released for the Switch on January 11th.
