1
Harm's way

Where you place your characters is possibly the most important decision you'll make in any Bloons game. In fact, if you put one in the wrong place, you might just want to restart the stage.

You will be able to visibly see the path Bloons will take on their way to whatever you're defending, and of course you want to place characters as close to the path as possible.

Naturally, the best locations will be where they can hit multiple sections of the path, so if the Bloons get past, they won't be around for long.

All the upgrades

You'll get cash for clearing waves and bashing through Bloons, and these upgrades will become instrumental in how you clear the stage.

Waves start small and slow, but will quickly pick up, with a variety of Bloons to pop. Upgrades will give you more damage, faster attack speed, special effects and bigger range.

All of these are crucial to clearing waves. Early waves can be taken out with good positioning alone, but wave 30 will be a different ride without upgrades.

The whole crew

While it won't be necessary early on, you will definitely want to unlock more characters. You'll get four characters by the time you've finished the tutorial, but you'll need more.

Luckily, you can get more characters by clearing adventures and certain tasks, and with more characters, you can place more on any given stage.

By placing more characters you can pop more Bloons, of course, but you'll have to pick between spending cash on upgrades or characters.

Super effective

Certain characters and upgrades will give debuffs or certain status effects to Bloons which can make the game easier.

Princess Bubblegum, for example, can slow the Bloons down, while Jake can smash through armour.

These effects are crucial to think about, so factor them in to how the wave will play out.
