Yes, it's about halfway through the month now, but that doesn't mean we can't still celebrate something - and this month we'll be shouting about indies as loudly as we can.

Smaller developers are what make mobile games so great, with their ability to turn out fascinating experiences and incredibly fun games for the small screen that the bigger companies might see as too risky to tackle.

From Alto's Odyssey to Monument Valley and beyond, there's a wealth of games out there might not get the attention they need thanks to smaller budgets and less marketing, so we're going to try and shine the spotlight on them as much as we can.

So join us as we celebrate the indie developers making beautiful, wonderful games today, and be sure to check out all the articles we have from our very own indie month below.

14 indie classics you can play on your smartphone

Indie games aren't unique to mobile - there was a time before our platform where developers would even make games for PC and consoles. Unbelieveable!

Some of these games went on to be huge, and are still loved to this day, and some of them even found themselves on the smaller screen a little while after their initial release.

So our Features Editor Jon Mundy has put together a list of the 14 indie classics you can play right now on mobile, and if you haven't checked them out, you really should.

5 indie classics you can't play on your smartphone

Not every classic indie game is available on mobile, and there's a handful that we think really should be released on iOS and Android.

Jon Mundy has collected just five of these games into a handy list, so you too can lament the fact that Spelunky still isn't available on the go.
