Asphalt 9: Legends is one of mobile best racers, but you might find things have changed if you've come over from Asphalt 8.

The new Touchdrive system is a big departure, and might put you off the game at first. Luckily, it's far from the only way to play - you can also use two other control modes.

Here we'll go through how to change the control modes, and which mode will offer you the experience you want.

Touchdrive? No thanks!

Not liking Touchdrive, huh? Well, I guess I can't blame you.

The new system of driving will make things easier to play, but might also put off fans of Asphalt 8 that have already adjusted to that control system.

Don't worry because there are two other control types - Tilt to Steer and Tap to Steer, and both of those come with their own pros and cons…

Reasons to Tilt steer

Tilt steer turns turning over to the gyros so you can physically tilt your mobile device to control the game.

This will allow you to take the most optimum routes without sticking to lanes and get ahead of the competition as fast as possible.

You can also still easily reach the drift and boost buttons, which make controlling the car nice and easy.

Reasons not to Tilt steer

Unfortunately, that's not to say Tilt to Steer is the most accurate way to play. Frankly, depending on your device's gyros, it can be a very disappointing experience.

Luckily you can alter the sensitivity, but that won't solve all issues, if you're having any. Still, even with that, this might be a decent step up from Touchdrive if you can steer well enough with gyros.

Reasons to Tap steer

Tap steer is easily the most accurate way to do things. Just hold on to the left or right sides of the screen to steer the way you want.

It's clearly the best way to play if you're experienced, allowing you to accurately take those corners, and you also get full control of acceleration and braking, which can be combined to drift, of course.

Reasons not to Tap steer

The problem with Tap to Steer is that you need to have one thumb on the screen to accelerate. And then to turn? Erm, well, start clawing your hands up, I guess?

You will need up to four fingers to properly control the game in Tap to Steer mode - it's honestly pretty encumbering and difficult to control, but if you adjust this would be the prime way to play.
