23 years since its initial release, Arc the Lad, is getting a new game coming to mobile devices in Japan.
Arc the Lad R does not have an official release date yet, but it's being made by ForwardWorks, a Sony company dedicated to bringing old forgotten franchises to mobile devices. The team are also currently working on Wild Arms which is slated to come out later this year.
Arc the Lad R takes place 10 years after Arc the Lad 2 and will feature strategic JRPG combat, but from the looks of the trailer, it'll feel more modern and look much less pixely. Folks in Japan can already pre-register right now from the game's website.
It's quite surprising that ForwardWorks are making a whole sequel to the series rather than just remaking one of the originals. It'll be curious to see if new player will be able to follow the story but since it's set 10 years in the future it might just side step past all of the game's previous events.
At the moment we don't know if Sony has plans to bring the game to the West, but if it does well in its home country then we might be seeing Arc the Lad R on the horizon. Those in Japan will be able to play it for free on both iOS and Android in the near future.
