Nintendo hits two ROM sharing sites with $100 million lawsuit

Nobody benefits from pirating video games, apart from people who are apparently profiting from selling on games they don't own – which is what Nintendo reckon a couple of sites have been doing recently.

As reported by TorrentFreak, Nintendo has filed a lawsuit against the owner of websites LoveROMS.com and LoveRETRO.co, two sites which happily share ROMs of old Nintendo games for others to download.

Well, more like shared. Since filing the lawsuit – which was looking for around $100 million in damages – both LoveROMS and LoveRETRO have been taken down, with no clear indication if or when they'll return. Probably never, if Nintendo has scared them off this quickly.

We at Pocket Gamer do not, under any circumstances, condone the illegal sharing of games – but there is sometimes an argument for these kinds of ROM sites. For one, they give people the chance to play games that they might not otherwise get a chance to, usually because they're so old or rare that it's nigh-on impossible to get a hold of them.

Regardless of your opinion, the owners of the sites clearly thought they were going to lose this battle, so the sites are gone. Just buy a NES Mini instead.
