Razz and Golden Razz
If you're an OG player who has dropped out of the GO game and stopped hustling a couple of years back, then you might be familiar with the humble Razz berry.
The Razz berry is nice and simple. Using is on a wild Pokémon will make them slightly easier to catch, definitely good to use against rarer and stronger Pokémon.
There are now also Golden Razz though, which you'll get from raids. These work the same way, but are much more effective, and best saved for only the beastiest of Pokémon.
The Nanab berry is a bit boring honestly, and if you use it on wild Pokémon, you might be left wondering exactly what effect it's had.
The Nanab's effect is pretty simple actually, it calms down wild Pokémon, making them less likely to bat away the Pokéballs you throw.
This does happen to make them the least useful berry in our opinion, but there is another use for berries we'll mention later on that makes Nanab good again…
Like the Nanab, you might be forgiven for not understanding exactly what the Pinap berry does. Well it's actually one of the most useful berries for Pokémon collectors.
The Pinap berry, when used on a wild Pokémon, will make that Pokémon drop double the usual amount of candy. This makes Pinap berries great if you're collecting candy to strengthen or evolve your Pokémon.
This effect even stacks with special events, which means if an event is offering double candies, the Pinap berry will make Pokémon you catch drop 12 candies at once. Not bad at all!
If you don't know what to do with all of your berries, like those Nanab, you can actually put them towards powering up your Pokémon at gyms.
If your Pokémon are taking damage from trainers trying to take your gym down, you can use berries from a great distance to power up your Pokémon and secure that gym for a bit longer.
The Nanab is, in our opinion, useless other than this, so save them up and keep your Pokémon in gyms strong.
Candies are pretty much as you remember them, used for strengthening or evolving Pokémon, and definitely good to collect.
But now you can also get Rare candies from raids, and like the Golden Razz berries, these are best used in very special occasions.
Rare candies, when used on a Pokémon, turns into a candy of that Pokémons type. Meaning if you're just a few candies shy of an evolution or powering up and you want it badly, you can invest rare candies.
Though, these are likely there more for powering up incredibly rare and powerful legendary Pokémon.
