Fortnite has raked in $1 billion to date from in-game purchases

We all knew Fortnite was successful (to put it lightly), but nothing drives the point home like cold, hard cash. Epic Games has made over $1 billion from the game’s in-app purchases exclusively, according to a report from Superdata, a market research firm that focuses on the video game industry.

The report focuses on the battle royale trend, showing a dramatic increase in revenue for Fortnite since October 2017. Fortnite has had quite a year, netting more than $1 million in just 72 hours after the game made its debut on iOS this past spring. The momentum tapered a bit in May, though the game still brought in $318 million in revenue for the month. The momentum is still going, though Epic Games did experience something of a setback with its recent Summer Skirmish series. Superdata also noted that the battle royale genre remains king among video game enthusiasts. People watched 700 million hours of battle royale streams and videos across a number of different games. Fortnite made up 83% of those 700 million hours.
