Fortnite Season 5 officially arrives this week

Fortnite Season 5 is officially launching on July 12, according to a new teaser from Epic Games. This puts an end to any speculation folks might have had about the season’s proper launch, especially since Playground Mode launched a little late a few weeks ago.

Perhaps more interesting than the release date itself, the teaser also features a mask emerging from one of the many rifts that have been appearing in Fortnite over the past few days. The mask closely resembles a Japanese kitsune, or fox, an important figure in folklore that possesses supernatural powers.

Previous teasers for the new season have featured other objects from days long ago including horse-drawn carriages and an ancient Greek anchor. Meanwhile, landmarks within Fortnite have been consumed by the aforementioned dimensional rifts popping up throughout the game. Some of these landmarks have even appeared in real-life locations, leading to speculation whether this ties into Season 5, too. We won’t know for sure until the season launches on Thursday at 9:00 A.M. BST.
