War? War never changes.

Pokémon GO is still one of the biggest mobile games out there, even if you dropped off a couple of years ago, like many of us did. But with Pokémon Let's Go! Pikachu and Pokémon Let's Go! Eevee on the horizon, many are returning to the geographical AR game.

I'm one of those people and, oh boy, there's a whole bunch of new content in Pokémon GO now, isn't there? Very different from when we were all poaching the softlaunch version what only seemed like months ago.

If you feel like a Pokémon GO foreigner despite being here since day one, this guide is for you, briefly going over all of the new content so you don't have to worry about it too much.

Raids and legendaries

One of the biggest additions to Pokémon GO has been legendary Pokémon, and the raids you have to take part in to get them. Sorry to say guys, you'll need friends.

Raids take place at certain gyms or Pokéstops, where you'll need as many Pokémon GO players as possible in order to weaken, and hopefully capture, a single legendary Pokémon. You need Raid Tickets to get in, too.

It's not quite the incredible experience that the early Pokémon GO trailers hinted at, but it's great to finally get a chance at our favourite rare mons.

New Pokémon

If you haven't logged in since the early days, oh boy, there's so much more to jump into now. Straight away I saw Treecko, Hoot-hoot, Natu, Aron, oh lawd there be some Pokémon out here.

That also means plenty of opportunities to level up. If you happen to have a Lucky Egg, using that and then catching a bunch of new Pokémon will give you loads of experience.

Couple that with evolutions, if you can, and you'll soak up experience. Not bad!

3
Berries and gifts

There are more items to be found at Pokéstops now, including more berries and gifts you can send to other players.

This does, however, actually mean you're less likely to get Pokéballs from a Pokéstop, which can be frustrating.

My tip? Minimise the amount of balls you use catching Pokémon by always using a berry to start the encounter.

4
Alolan forms

There's not just new Pokémon and new berries to be grabbing, but Alolan forms of Kanto favourites have made their way into Pokémon GO too.

You might've missed your opportunity to get yourself an Alolan Exeggcutor, but there's still plenty of other Alolan forms out there, like the chubby cheeked Rattata.

These Alolan forms will also use the same candies as their Kanto forms, so you can quickly get their evolved forms too.

5
Tasks

One of the biggest new additions are the daily and special tasks you're given. Finally, some direction in the world of Pokémon GO!

There will be challenges such as a certain number of "Nice" throws, curve balls, egg hatches, and more.

Completing the tasks will earn you more balls, berries and other rewards, so it's definitely worth checking the tasks available each time you log on and ticking them off.
