Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is getting an 8-bit prequel

We’re still waiting for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night’s big debut later this year, but Inti Creates has something to tide us over. Bloodstained is getting an 8-bit Castlevania-inspired prequel game called Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon. The prequel was teased as a stretch goal during Ritual of the Night’s successful Kickstarter campaign.

Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon stars four characters who may look familiar if you enjoyed the Castlevania series. You’ll be able to play as swordmaster Zangetsu; Miriam, who wields a whip; Alfred, an alchemist; or Gebel, a shapeshifter who likes to take the form of a bat. The game encourages you to play with as many characters in a team as possible. The more folks you have fighting along your side, the stronger you’ll be. Some environments can only be explored with certain characters, plus, if you die, you’ll be able to keep going as long as you have other characters with you. Backers who contributed $28 or more to the campaign will receive a free code for the game when it launches on Switch, 3DS, and Vita on May 24. Otherwise Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon will be available for digital purchase for £9.99.
