Fortnite cheats and tips - Everything you need to become a master crafter

Fortnite Battle Royale is loads of fun on iPhone and iPad, and now that we’re delving deep into the battle royale experience we can’t get enough.

One of the unique aspects about Fortnite is the ability to craft cover and structures both to defend yourself and move around the game world. It’s a fascinating mechanic, one that can drastically change how you play the game.

If you haven’t adjusted to building yet, then these tips just might help you on your way to getting that victory royale you’ve always dreamed of.

Wrecking crew

Right, so in order to have enough materials to continue crafting throughout your match - which you just might have to do - you’ll need plenty of materials.

Luckily they’re not hard to come by at all! In fact, they’re probably right in front of your eyes right now. Trees? Rocks? Cars? Hell yeah, they’re all materials. Just start whacking away at them with your default pickaxe, and any object your can harvest will wobble and break.

Buildings are a great source of material - tear through the rooftop and investigate the rafters for guns while getting materials.

You can swap between three types of materials, wood, rock and steel, and they increase in durability in that order.

Just like how you can break anything else, you can tear through your own or other people’s defences with gunfire or your pickaxe - explosions are even better in a fight though, of course.

If you’re nearing the end of the game then make sure to use your best materials so enemies won’t break through your cover easily.

Taking cover

On the subject of cover, that has to be one of the better uses for building. If you’re crossing an open space and are getting shot at, you can quickly put up a few walls in order to take stock of the situation.

Surrounding yourself with four walls, and then jumping to place a set of stairs directly below you is one of the best structures you can make if you want to settle down.

You can easily snipe and shoot from this position and you should have plenty of cover, assuming you don’t get grenades rained on you.

Heading on up

There’s plenty of spots in Fortnite’s map that make use of elevation or altitude - basically, you’ll need to get up high sometimes even though it can be difficult.

Luckily you can endlessly chain sets of stairs together, and even do it while running up them. One thing to note though, is that you’ll go up and forward, diagonally. If you’re getting up a steep cliff, you’ll need a big run up.

Walking on sunshine

Once you’re up in the air though, either with stairs, off a tall building or a cliff, you can start using the floor tiles to make a path through the air.

Sometimes, for whatever reason, you just won’t want to be on the ground, maybe for fear of getting shot while on the run. But making a path in the sky is, well, it’s out of the way, but it’s not exactly inconspicuous.

And it all comes crashing down…

You build, we all build, but sometimes you’ll get the urge to destroy. And destroying is a bit fun, truth be told.

If you build a set of stairs, for example, and the only point it touches to the ground is the first set, well all that needs to happen is for that first set to be destroyed, and then the entire connected structure will come crashing down to the ground.

So needless to say, if you see an enemy on a precarious ledge, just take them down a notch by shooting out their supports. The fall damage will probably finish them off!
