7 mobile games that would be better on Switch
|

This week sees the launch of Steredenn: Binary Stars on Nintendo Switch, a port of last year's excellent mobile shooter.

It's far from the first mobile-to-Switch conversion we've seen in the 12 months that Nintendo's console has been on shelves, and not all of them have been much cop. Hello MUJO.

Steredenn, though, seems set to be one of the better fits for Switch. It's an already-great game in a genre that suits physical controls, and it's set to arrive with a number of enhancements.

Which set us to thinking: which other mobile games would inevitably be a brilliant fit for the Nintendo Switch? Here are a few recent (and some not-so-recent) examples that spring to mind.

Kalimba

A brilliantly clever platform-puzzler that sees you controlling two characters at once - or, preferably, roping in a second player to help you flip the appropriate switches. If that doesn't sound like the perfect Switch game, we don't know what does.

Atomine

We basically want every decent twin-stick shooter ever made to make an appearance on Switch. Atomine is a recent mobile example with glitchy cyberpunk graphics, a wonderful sense of discovery, with super slick arcade gameplay.

Cally's Caves 4

Cally's Caves 4 is the kind of retro 16-bit action-platformer that used to be common on the SNES, so of course it would be at home on the Switch. We thought the virtual controls were great in the mobile version, but let's face it: you can't beat a good set of physical buttons.

Wayward Souls

Wayward Souls is one of the finest games on mobile, a brilliant roguelike action-RPG that plays like a sweet mash-up of Zelda and Spelunky. RocketCat's game is mobile through and through, but it's bound to be even better with proper set of controls.

Crashlands

Crashlands is a brilliantly chaotic, freewheeling survival game that looks and controls like an action RPG, but with a deep crafting system. This rich mixture would really sing on the compact screen and solid controls of the Switch.

ReRunners

One of the freshest mobile platformers of recent times, ReRunners introduced a compelling online multiplayer angle and tight controls to produce a curious sort of racing game. Add a memorable art style, and it's a game that we reckon would thrive on Switch.

Vulture Island

Vulture Island Vulture Island is a mobile platformer that clearly doffs its plumber's cap to Mario in its visual design, but it also does some interesting things with structure. You need to hop back and forth between levels as you collect key items. We can imagine it going down well on Switch for a knock-down price.
