Manpower

Nothing’s gonna get done in space without members of your crew on board to help keep things moving. Whether it’s manning guns, producing new weapons, new research and even a variety of other tasks, you’ll need crew members to take care of it.

Luckily you can get a constant supply of new crew members at Space Hubs, and you’ll need new members as you get more facilities on your ship that will require crew members.

This becomes even more important when certain crew members require treatment after explorations gone wrong, or they tire of the jobs you’ve given them and they need to switch around to stay happy.

All action

If you want to be as capable as possible in missions you’re going to need to upgrade a few things, and one of the most important things to get are guns, of course.

More firepower means more damage per turn, and of course that means you’ll more easily be able to take care of enemies in battle. Of course, this means you need more slots on the bridge, and enough crew members to man all of your guns.

The bridge is a good section of the ship to upgrade then, but upgrading your firepower alone won’t help in the long run, so just keep it in mind. Two or three bridge slots is a good place to be.

Essential materials

There’s a selection of materials you’ll need to craft weapons and more in Holy Potatoes, and you’ll need to keep a fresh stock in case guns ever break and you need to craft a quick replacement.

Here’s a quick list of the materials you’ll need…

  • Antimatter
  • Plasma
  • Ore
  • Nanofibres
  • Biowaste

If you can’t seem to find the materials while exploring you can purchase them at Space Hubs, but in bulk they can be pricey.

Constant crafting

As we’ve mentioned, you can have guns break down easily, and as such you’ll need guns to replace those pretty regularly. Yep, that means your crafting room on board the ship should be well stocked.

Upgrade the room to have two slots is very handy, you’ll be able to make weaponry much more efficiently, which is good when some weapons have dangerously low HP.

Having at least one crew member hard at work in the crafting room will help out in the long run when you’re in a pinch.

Bigger is better

In case it wasn’t obvious, bigger is most definitely better. Plenty of guns, crew members and loads of cash being poured into upgrades on your ship.

Better treatment rooms, better crafting facilities, more bridge slots, the whole lot. Upgrading your ship is frankly one of the most important things you can spend your cash on.

You can get ship upgrades at the Space Hub - start by buying up the cheap upgrades, and then focus on the ones you specifically want, such as bridge slots or treatment slots. Early important upgrades are also the ones which increase your hull’s HP, and make more efficient use of fuel.
