Sega’s bringing its storied Shining RPG series back to life with Shining Resonance Refrain, a remake of the original Shining Resonance for PlayStation 3. The game’s heading to Nintendo Switch sometime this summer.
The Shining series dates all the way back to the days of the Sega Genesis and Sega Saturn, where it got its start as a strategy RPG series before taking quite a turn with more recent entries. Nowadays, Shining Resonance has cast off strategic combat for a more musical theme.

In Shining Resonance, your party members’ weapons, or Armonics, double as musical instruments with which they can play Rune Songs. To fight your enemies, you build BPM (Battle Performance Mana, naturally) in order to pull off special powers with the game’s “B.A.N.D.” system.

The remake is getting a graphics boost, and will feature a dual-language track. Folks who buy Shining Resonance Refrain will have access to all of the original DLC and an exclusive “Refrain Mode” which gives players access to the Imperial Princess Excella and Dragonslayer Jinas, both playable characters.
