Which is how you end up with a Victorian detective story with augmented reality features, choose-your-own-adventure writing, and a step counter.

This is Silent Streets: The Mockingbird’s Last Dive, and every inch of it is dripping with style and neat ideas. From the art to the story, everything about the game is intriguing.

Dirty old streets

Even with the linearity inherent to the genre, it gives you a world that you want to explore. And there are a number of ways to do that. From interacting with the characters to actually stepping into the story thanks to some smart augmented reality tricks.

At one point you’re looking at a recently deceased corpse. And thanks to AR kit you can walk around it, get a closer look at the injuries that the man has received, and discovering the clues that are going to point you in the direction of the killer.

Other times you can use your own steps to actually walk to locations. You can skip that part with a carriage ride, but it’s still a neat way to keep you connected to the experience.

Let the bodies hit the floor

Then there’s the story. It’s beautifully written, full of twists and turns, and is likely to have you gripped right to the very end.

If you’re a fan of crime thrillers, adventure games, or just having a really long look at digital dead bodies, The Mockingbird’s Last Dive is definitely one to watch.
