Peachy Puzzle review - A casual puzzler that's a little too relaxed

Peachy Puzzle is the kind of gentle, meditative puzzler that you can zone out to. The kind you can either play with a little bit of thought or even no thought at all, depending on your mood.

The only trouble is, it's almost too sedate for its own good. It wants so much to be a relaxed, easy-going experience that it too easily slips into the background.

It's just a little bit too... nice.

Fair and square

The idea here is to touch and drag shapes onto an empty grid as they become available to you. These shapes take the form of various components of the individual squares on the grid.

So, you might get a simple diagonal half of a square, or halves from three adjacent squares stacked on top of each other.

Your goal is to slot these together to form complete squares and rectangles of four blocks or more. When you do so, these shapes will disappear from the grid.

When you get to a point where you can't lay a piece down, the game ends.

Boxing dumb

That's all there really is to Peachy Puzzle. There are additional locked boxes that need to be matched several times before they disappear.

You also get a limited number of complete square blocks to help you complete shapes quickly. But other than that Peachy Puzzle simply rumbles on to a chilled ambient soundtrack.

It's certainly relaxing, but there's a lack of any real spark to the gameplay. Filling in gaps largely feels like busywork.

There is some strategy to it, but beyond simple space management it's largely about keeping your options open and getting lucky with with your next shape segment.

Ultimately, Peachy Puzzle simply doesn't have the mechanical spark of the very best casual puzzlers out there. It's just not clever enough, nor is there sufficient tactile pleasure in simply drifting through it, for the game to hold your attention too long.

Peachy Puzzle is a pleasant, unassuming puzzler that simply doesn't excite with its mechanics
