Nintendo will release more original titles on the Switch

We asked our Pocket Gamer expert journalists what they thought 2018 was going to bring the mobile and handheld gaming market...

When faced with the question: 'what do you most hope for in 2018?', my immediate answer is I'm expecting the unexpected. In my experience, mobile gaming is so predictable and wonderfully unpredictable at the same time that I'm constantly surprised by it.

We've had some wonderful ports in 2017 to counteract the sheer trash-mammal this year has been, and no one can argue that Nintendo didn't blow everyone away with the Switch this year.

In 2018 I reckon it'll be the year Nintendo starts pushing out more original titles on the Switch - like Seasons of Heaven - and porting more hardcore, popular titles, like Tomb Raider or something loosely along those lines.

I reckon AR will begin snaking its way more dominantly into casual gaming, especially since the older iPhones are quickly becoming obsolete, and I'd be surprised if we didn't see one of these 'play PC games on the go'-like systems arrive. Well, not fully launched but perhaps in its demo stages.

2017 has absolutely been the year of indies and I sincerely hope this continues for as long as possible.

I look forward to what other weird, wonderful, wacky things spill out of people's heads and onto their screens. I look forward to the epic success stories we'll heard about from smaller, lesser-known companies. I look forward to whatever unique debuts are just waiting to be released.

Finally, I'm looking forward to those mobile/handheld games that make me genuinely go 'wow'.
