Call of Duty: WW2 is out now, marking a return to the series's World War II roots.
It's receiving a generally warm - if not exactly rapturous - reception from the critics, but that doesn't really matter. It's already selling like hotcakes.
The bad news is that, following on from Wolfenstein 2's recent launch, here's another fast-paced Nazi-blasting FPS that mobile users don't get to play.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies
What better way to start a feature about mobile Call of Duty alternatives than with a mobile Call of Duty game?
Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies doesn't share the new console game's WW2 setting, and it's also full of zombies. It's also pretty old. But it is a Call of Duty FPS, and it still plays a pretty good game of pointy-shooty.
Call of Duty World At War: Zombies
If you demand a little more World War II authenticity from your bombastic zombie shooter, there's always Call of Duty World At War: Zombies.
This wave-based spin off plays similarly to Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies, but with better period detail. The only reason it's not above its Cold War stablemate is that it's a couple of years older.
Brothers in Arms 3
Brothers in Arms 3 isn't an FPS, but it is a story-driven third person shooter set in World War II. Which makes it perhaps the most direct alternative to Call of Duty: WW2 on this list.
Also like Call of Duty: WW2, Brothers in Arms 3 has IAPs, though the mobile game is way more heavy handed with its approach. Despite that, it's an enjoyably OTT World War II shooter.
Frontline Commando: D-Day
As the name would suggest, Frontline Commando: D-Day is a game that deals with the infamous beach landing operation that represented a turning point of World War II.
Frontline Commando: D-Day is fast-paced duck-and-cover shooter that plays fast and loose with history in the name of entertainment. Sound familiar?
Guns of Boom
All of our other picks relate to the Call of Duty brand, its World War II setting, or its single player campaign. Guns of Boom does none of that.
Rather, it makes the list because it's the best online multiplayer FPS on mobile. And let's face it, most people play Call of Duty for its multiplayer mode, right?
