This year’s Eurogamer Expo came and went this past weekend, and we saw some incredible portable games to look out for.

While snooping out out games from both big publishers and indie teams, we saw games that’ll be both great for the brief commutes, and perfect for a long-haul flights.

While no means an extensive list, these games are sure to help us while away the hours in the near future.

Take a look below for some of the most interesting and memorable games we saw at EGX 2017.

Astrologaster

The first thing you’ll notice about Astrologaster is the beautiful, intricate pop-up book artstyle. Nyamyam Games have continued with the unique, hand-crafted appearance of their debut game Tengami, and ran with it to make something completely unique.

In Astrologaster, you jump into the shoes of a 1500s astrologer, who gives people life advice based on the alignment of the stars - but the advice you give might not always work out.

For example, dating advice given to one gentleman soon turns ugly after he loses interest in a girl, and her brutish father and brother come for him.

Players will weave fates in their own way, for better and worse, and we can’t wait to ruin lives in Astrologaster.

Inops

If you’re wondering what an Inop is, well, it’s a bit like a ball a blu-tac, by itself its small, manoeuvrable, but when rolled into other balls of blu-tac, it gets bigger and more unwieldy.

Poor similes aside, Inops is a side-scroller where you’ll guide the Inops (literally the name for the dark balls of blu-tac with eyes) to safety through some dangerous cave systems.

To navigate these caves you’ll be moving parts of the environment and interacting with elements, using your Inops, to open new passageways - you can even split your large Inop into a cluster of smaller Inops to move through cramped openings.

Inops will be testing both your patience and your logic as you move through stages, unlocking mechanisms are defeating
dark, dastardly devils.

Ocmo

Possibly one of the few characters more difficult to describe than Inops, the part-Lovecraftian horror and part-adorable arachnid thing, Ocmo makes for a fantastic platformer.

Ocmo essentially uses his grotesque appendages to latch onto the environment, and swings himself to safety through the stages. He can crawl on walls and ceilings, grab onto almost anything, he’s a very nimble wee fellow, just there’s an amber goop that causes him instantaneous death almost everywhere.

Using the momentum you build up from gravity and moving through stages, Ocmo can swing through precarious passages, leaping through danger, offering a shockingly satisfying challenge to boot.

Add to that some gorgeous graphics and an addictive selection of stages and Ocmo is sure to keep your attention for a while.

Skyrim

What could possibly tempt us back to the world of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim again? Mods? DLC? New content? No, of course not. Portability, however? Well that changes things.

Skyrim is back once again, but this time it’s in the palm of your hands on Nintendo Switch, changing how the classic RPG will be played from here on out.

Right now, Skyrim on Switch is arguably running better and looking nicer than it ever did on either Xbox 360 or PS3 - a massive achievement, considering you can now play it on the toilet.

We’ll definitely be getting back in touch with our inner Dovahkiin and hunting down some dragons when The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim lands on Switch.

RiME

One of the most breathtakingly beautiful and enchantingly peaceful games of the last generation, RiME is now coming to Nintendo Switch.

The slow, unravelling world of RiME is one you discover for yourself, with minimal HUD elements or “gamey” tutorials standing in between you and just experiencing the game.

Starting from a washed up beach far below buildings towering above you, you make your way up to the top with the very world around you guiding you forward.

Every inch of RiME looks like a picturesque desktop wallpaper, and looks just as good on the sharp screen of your Nintendo Switch.

Rogue Trooper Redux

The classic third-person shooter Rogue Trooper returns in Rogue Trooper Redux, a complete remake of the beloved game with all the modern upgrades you could want.

Level layouts and designs remain faithful to the original, while controls, textures, lighting and much more have been updated to bring Rogue Trooper Redux into the modern era.

Controls have been streamlined to accommodate modern gamers, with additions such as a new dynamic cover system.

While the core game is just as fans remember it, Rogue Trooper Redux modernises and improves the experience without losing what made it a classic shooter.
