Mr Future Ninja review - A slick but not quite perfect adventure

There's a lot to like in Mr Future Ninja. It's a slick mix of puzzle, action, stealth, and a whole bunch of other ideas.

There's environmental control, gaps to leap across, and switches to turn on by bashing them with magical future shurikens.

It's not without its problems, though, and there are a few niggles here that keep it away from the higher echelons of the App Store.

The game sees you controlling a small robotic ninja. Or a group of small robotic ninjas. You sprint around tight little levels, finding out what switches you need to pull and what doors you need to open.

You move your robo-ninjas around with a joystick on the left of the screen. There are buttons on the right that you use to pull switches, perform the special moves of your ninjas, and swap between which of them you're controlling.

Everything is put together with reasonable slickness. There's never any problem with the controls, but there are times when the scenery of the level gets in the way of what you're supposed to be doing.

It's not a huge problem, but it does show that the game is a little bit rough around the edges. There are times you'll get a little stuck as well, which slows down the fun somewhat.

But there's a decent chunk of levels to jump into here, and you'll unlock different robots with different moves that can get you through to previously inaccessible areas.

The ninjas aren't just robots of action though. There's a stealth element as well, and it's here that some of the problems stem from. The controls are just a little too sloppy to make getting past the bad robot guards satisfying.

There are lights to get past, and if you dally in them for too long you'll be struck by an electric bolt that sends you back to the last checkpoint you made it to.

There's nothing broken here, not really, it's just a little scrappy in places. There's charm all the same, and a decent graphical style that changes from level to level.

It might not have the bright ideas of the best action adventure games on mobile, but there's enough to keep you playing right to the end of everything Mr Future Ninja has to offer.
