Ironhide's Kingdom Rush series has offered some of the best tower defense games on mobile, but their next title Iron Marines will be shifting the strategy to a real time approach. From their latest blog post, the developers shows a bevy of exciting mechanics and moments in new footage and mention plans of a release later this year.

Leaving behind fantasy and arrows for sci-fi missiles, Iron Marines pits your titular warriors and weapons against alien foes. Interestingly, the new gameplay shows that your tactics will actually be a hybrid of squad management and tower placement, directing units to capture points and placing powerful turrets to fend off incoming assaults.

Most intriguing is the slick UI that lets place different marine and mech types, even swapping between mechs on the fly. You'll need to use different variants tactically; for example, the Shellstorm can fire missiles over barriers while another type can eliminate large waves with a flamethrower.

Iron Marines will be Ironhide's first game of 2017 and will "published at mid year."
