Each week, we get early access to an exciting upcoming mobile game and give it to a select few hardened mobile gaming experts that make up the App Army. We then feed these thoughts back to you, our audience, so you know whether it's worth your time or not. Gamer to gamer.
We start off this week with Jump Or Stay, an endless runner with an eye catching colour scheme and simple controls. You control a fish in a ball and have to decide whether you will jump over an object or stay and let it rise above you.
Pick it up on the App Store now.Kainen Ryan
Jump or Stay is a really enjoyable runner in which mistakes come as soon as you try to take it easy.
If you fail to complete a stage, you have to start over, so things can quite quickly get repetitive.
All being said, this is simple, fun and addictive, and something I will play for a while.David Beren
This game looks like Chameleon Run, using the same camera position and colour scheme. However, it does have its own little niche.
The game starts off easy but ramps up quickly and does become challenging.
Although it may look simple to jump when an obstacle is a different colour to the floor, it gets hectic and bad decisions are made.
Overall, I'd recommend this as it's a great pick up and play.
When I first played this game, it was seriously frustrating because it felt like guesswork. There was no way of knowing which blocks would jump without trial and error.
After a while, I managed to figure out the reason why a block would jump, but I don't remember there actually being an instruction.
It's okay, I just think the instructions should be clearer.Tony Teulan
A good game to play in short sessions, but not enough to keep you entertained for hours at a time.
Clean graphics with simple controls make it easy to play but hard to master. There are other characters to collect which give you a reason to play other than just chasing a score.
I don't see weeks of entertainment in this game, but its solid and you can spend some time with it every now and again.
It's an interesting game and is better than a lot of endless runners out there. The graphics are basic but do the job and the gameplay provides a good challenge. Deciding when to jump or stay is harder than it sounds.
Overall, it's not a bad effort but is just another endless runner to slip in with the many others on the App Store.Chase Geier
Jump or Stay is a brilliantly simple idea executed very well. It's not a unique idea as I have seen quite a few games like this, but it's surprisingly addictive.
The graphics are good and the sound suits the game quite well. Overall, it's okay - not the best endless runner but by no means a bad one.Laura Egri
This is another example of a simple idea executed well. There's a good choice of colours for the platforms and the background is quite relaxing. It will test your reaction skills and punish compliancy, providing a good mix of challenge and fun.
It handles smoothly, is fun to play, and is surprisingly addictive for a simple concept. I would recommend this for someone looking for a more challenging endless runner.
On paper, it's another runner using a basic colour scheme and simple gameplay - but it offers much more than that.
The designers have done a great job making this simple game fun and addictive.
Jump or Stay is a great time filler, with bright graphics and easy to pick up controls.
The sound isn't annoying and suits the game well. The gameplay requires more concentration than most endless runners as you have to think about whether to jump or not.
It may not bring anything revolutionary to the table, but it's different enough to make it worth playing and keeping for a bit.The App Army is Pocket Gamer's very own community of mobile game experts.
