The 3DS isn't done yet.

Even though the Switch is out next year, and will let you take full console games on the go, there's still a batch of must-have 3DS games coming down the pipe.

Here are seven to keep an eye on.

Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World

It's a shame that no one bought the Wii U. They missed out on a bunch of great games - including the ultra-charming platformer Yoshi's Woolly World.

Not to worry - you'll be get another chance to play in 2017. This port adds a bunch of new stages focused on wooly pup Poochy and you can also design your own knitted Yoshi patterns.

Mario's sports games are, quite frankly, excellent. From golf to tennis, and even the weird ones like football and, uhm, dancing, these are all cracking games.

This 3DS cartridge packs in five different sports - Football, Baseball, Tennis, Golf and Horse Racing - so you can swap from 11-a-side footy to a doubles match in minutes.

The game's got online and local multiplayer modes, as well as full singleplayer tournaments for all five sports.

Grezzo is getting a break from remastering Zelda games. This time, it's getting to make a full-on JRPG with a whole new world and set of characters.

Your job is to build an oasis, while fending off enemies who are threatening peace in your desert home. You'll be fighting monsters, solving puzzles, and foraging for materials to craft new items.

Pikmin

I'm not sure this is quite what we all meant when we asked for Pikmin on 3DS. But, hey, we'll keep an open mind.

Instead of the usual real-time strategy stuff we expect from Pikmin, this is a side-scrolling platformer. But you'll still be using different coloured Pikmin to finish tasks, fight enemies, and solve puzzles.

Don't worry, Miyamoto and co are also hard at work on Pikmin 4 - expect that on Switch at some point.

Blaster Master Zero

I'm a big fan of Blaster Master. This lesser-known NES game mixed up games like Metroid, Mega Man, Zelda, and Contra for a glorious mix-tape of 8 bit goodness. The soundtrack's rad, too.

This remake will do more than spruce up the graphics. There will be new areas and bosses, more weapons, a stronger story, and more. Even if you finished it on NES (well done!), Zero will be worth checking out.

Layton ain't done yet! Yes, Azran Legacy was the last Professor Layton game - but this one has an all new character, the prof's daughter.

You'll be playing as Katrielle Layton, and will be shooting aliens with laser rifles and wall-running along the side of spaceships. Nah just kidding, you're solving puzzles and riddles.

Did you play Retro City Rampage? The ode to classic GTA games, which were filled with references to retro games and movies? This is the sequel and it looks fab.

You'll be building your corporate empire, and then heading out with a machine gun to destroy the competition. All this in an open world city filled with stuff to do. Should keep you busy for a while.
