App Army Assemble: Madness Road - Mad Max races onto mobile

| Madness Road

You've been driving for miles along a post apocalyptic highway when you spot a bunch of zombies. What do you do? You drive into them as fast as you possibly can, smashing them into nasty undead zombie chunks.

Sure, there aren't any zombies in Mad Max, but Madness Road still feels quite similar. And that's largely down to the vehicles of bloodthirsty death you can build, and the deserted, post-apocalyptic roads you drive them on.

We weren't enormously taken with it at review, giving at a five and saying: "There's certainly roads, but the only insanity you'll find in Madness Road is the floaty controls and shallow gameplay".

But don't just take our word for it. We also asked what our stalwart bunch of mobile gaming experts in the App Army thought. Here's their hot take.

Chase Geier

This game is bad. The graphics and controls aren't great, but the biggest issue is that it's just no fun. You just ride around till your fuel runs out. There's no skill involved, and the only goal is to collect coins to unlock new cards.

Clint Yarwood

The controls are a bit iffy and there's no throttle control so you can only move left and right. I guess if you're just looking for something simple and like mowing down zombies, then this is the game for you.

Aaron Burdett

It's okay in short bursts. The controls are tricky, which I assume is deliberate, but often too punishing for their own good. You basically mow down zombies, earn coins, and unlock new car aesthetics. Rinse. Repeat.

Andy King

The art style and unlock mechanics are very Crossy Road - but rather than take its inspirations from Frogger, it's clearly inspired by Carmageddon.

It's a fun little time waster but the controls are a little unresponsive.

Aaron Carey

The controls completely ruin this for me. Playing in landscape was bad enough, but in portrait it's just impossible.

As others have said there isn't much to it.

Kainen Ryan

A lot of the fun of Grand Theft Auto is in mowing innocent civilians down in a fast car, laughing all the way. So a game that gives you just that should be a complete winner, right?

Well, apparently not, as Madness Road is just dull. You see that's all there is, and once you've seen one thing go splat you've seen all this has to offer.

Wesley Tee

If you like mowing down zombies in a car repeatedly, this may be the game for you. It's fine in short bursts, but gets repetitive very quickly.

Laura Egri

This isn't great - even for fans of games like this. I like that it uses simplified mechanics and it doesn't require high strategy or high skills but it really needs a little more variation.

Oksana Ryan

The controls are clunky, you run out of fuel too quickly, and the cars you unlock all feel the same.

It's a shame because with a little more meat this game could have been very entertaining.
