The new Call of Duty is out this week. This time, we're popping into space for a bit, and will hopefully shoot a robot and fly around in a spaceship.
Of course, you can't be glued to your PS4 all day, every day. Sometimes you have to go - ugh - outside. And that's what this list is all about.
Here are seven games that will give you Call of Duty vibes, but on your telephone. Isn't technology amazing?Modern Combat 5
Modern Combat is trying so hard to be like Call of Duty, it sometimes gets mistaken for Call of Duty on the street. And sometimes, just sometimes, when it's feeling low and needs an ego boost, it says "yes, yes I am Call of Duty. Would you like an autograph?"
It's got the whole unlikable military men shooting their way through city streets and jungle villages thing. And everything explodes like the primary building resource in this game is just sticks of dynamite stacked into cubes.
There's online, if you're into that, and a pretty sizeble singpelayer campaign. All backed up by some surprisingly versatile controls and a story which I can honestly say "exists".Call of Duty: Strike Team
Hey, this is actually a Call of Duty game! But it's not exactly a straight port of any console COD game you've played.
Instead, it's a weird genre hybrid. At points, you're playing it like a strategy game as you guide soldiers about from a top-down perspective. And at any time, you can dive into one of your unit's heads and play the game like an FPS.
It actually, somehow, against all odds… works. It's actually pretty fun and well suited for mobile play. Check it out.Dead Trigger 2
Okay, so maybe you play Call of Duty games for the zombie mode. That's fine. What started as a silly mini game is now a critically important part of the COD package.
If so, check out this undead blaster. It's a handsome FPS with smart controls that make sense for mobile. And it's full of zombies to gun down. It even has boss fights and online arena tournaments.Call of Duty: Heroes
Another Call of Duty game! And another game that is nothing like the games we play on Xbox. But that's a good thing - what works on consoles rarely works so well on mobile.
So, instead, this game takes aim at a genre of game that has proven very popular on phones: the Clash of Clans-alike.
So expect to build a base, plop down fortifications, hire brigades of military goons, and go away to wreck the hard work of friends and strangers alike. It's a bit like being the general of an army, but you can command armies while in your underwear.Hitman Sniper
Some people play Call of Duty in a peculiar way. They take a high powered rifle, go and find some secluded spot, and take out unsuspecting players from miles away. We refer to these players as "jerks".
If this is you, you'd probably get a kick out of Hitman Sniper. It's a game about identifying and picking off targets from afar, so you never have to get mud or blood on your expensive suit or shiny bald head.Neon Shadow
Oh yeah, this new Call of Duty game is set in space, isn't it? Okay, scrap all those other games and get Neon Shadow instead. This is a fast, frantic, and slightly nostalgia shooter set on a space station.
It's not trying to be realistic. It's not trying to tell a deep story about the tragedy of war and the redemption of man. It's trying to let you blast loads and loads of aliens with shotguns so you can forget that the world is a bit horrible for a few hours.Afterpulse
And we come to the real reason people play Call of Duty: to go online and get murdered by racist 12 year olds from America. Ah video games, what would we do without you?
Afterpulse is among the best when it comes to playing shooters online. It's free, there are still plenty of people playing, and it actually feels pretty good to play on your phone.
If you're craving some COD action when you're out and about, fire up your phone and get into a game of Afterpulse to tide you over.
